November 21, 2023 – Sustainability is a mission-critical priority for McKinsey and we have been helping our clients decarbonize, build climate resilience, and address sustainability challenges for more than a decade. We have committed to rapidly scale this work to help clients in all industries reach net zero by 2050, and to help the world reach the goals aligned with the Paris agreement. In 2022, 3,500 colleagues completed more than 1,600 sustainability projects for more than 600 clients across nearly 60 countries from every industry and our clients contribute 80% of reported CO2 emissions reductions. We’re proud of the work we’re doing to help clients scale green businesses, decarbonize operations, accelerate deployment of capital to finance the transition, and promote an inclusive transition. To support leaders on the journey to net zero, McKinsey’s factual analysis of various transition scenarios shows the consequences of different pathways to inform decision makers.
Reaching net-zero emissions by 2050 will require one of the largest economic reorganizations in human history and will necessitate action from all stakeholders. This is why we’re supporting COP28 through providing insights and analysis. We also believe meeting that goal requires engaging with private sector companies, high-emitting sectors, and the entire global community. Walking away from these sectors would do nothing to solve the climate challenge.
