Michael

Leads initiatives for accessibility and inclusivity at our firm, with a focus on fostering community and empowering colleagues living with physical impairments, mental health challenges, or chronic illnesses. He also works in our Social Healthcare and Public Entities and People & Organizational Performance practices to help client leaders develop strategies to create impact at scale.

Michael serves as the program manager for Access McKinsey, our firm’s affinity group dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for colleagues with physical impairments, mental health challenges, and chronic illnesses. In this role, Michael collaborates with global chapter leads to support and inspire meaningful conversations around accessibility and inclusivity.

A hallmark of Michael’s work was the annual celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), which he spearheaded in 2024 with the larger Access team. The initiative attracted participation from hundreds of colleagues across more than 20 countries. However, Michael finds it most impactful to empower chapter leads to host their own IDPD events at the office level. These local connections have proven invaluable in fostering safe spaces where colleagues can openly share challenges and find community.

Key Achievements

  • Global accessibility advocacy: Led the launch of Access McKinsey’s IDPD celebration, which engaged colleagues worldwide in discussions about accessibility and inclusivity.
  • Empowering chapter leads: Supported office-level chapter leaders in organizing localized IDPD events, strengthening on-the-ground impact and community-building.
  • Published author: Co-authored the McKinsey.com article, “From the military to the workforce: How to leverage veterans’ skills,” alongside Senior Partner Scott Blackburn and other McKinsey veterans, offering strategies for veterans to enhance their earnings post-transition.

Beyond McKinsey

Michael’s journey into accessibility advocacy was deeply personal. After becoming a partial amputee, he discovered the profound importance of inclusive spaces that support adaptation and growth. He reflects, “Accessibility is for everyone—at any point in life, we may find ourselves needing to adapt. Communities like Access McKinsey help individuals navigate those transitions with resilience and support.”

Outside of work, Michael enjoys surfing and reading short stories that illuminate humanity through the lens of everyday experiences. For Michael, understanding and celebrating people’s stories, both within and beyond McKinsey, is a source of continual inspiration.
