Being part of the energy transition

When I joined McKinsey three years ago, I heard many colleagues encourage me to “make my own McKinsey.” At first, I wasn’t sure what to make of this or how to do it, but over time, I realized how much possibility it provided.

Combining my passions at McKinsey

A big turning point in finding my personal path and passion came during a project with the World Economic Forum on sustainable aviation fuels. I worked with global industry experts from the WEF Clean Skies for Tomorrow coalition, including fuel producers, airlines, aircraft manufacturers, and airport operators. The input from industry, as well as McKinsey experts, served as a basis for the Clean Skies for Tomorrow: Sustainable Aviation Fuels as a Pathway to Net-Zero Aviation report we published as the result of the engagement. This work made me realize I could combine my background in aviation with my passion for sustainability. From that point on, I knew I wanted to help organizations decarbonize transportation, especially aviation and existing ICE-powered vehicle fleets, with sustainable fuels.

Carving my path forward

Now, I am part the Energy Insights team. We put a lot of effort into granular modelling of global energy demand across different scenarios, evaluating risks and opportunities energy transition creates for clients. Thanks to our assets and models, we can quickly assess the impact of new regulations on the regional energy space, such as how ‘Fit for 55’ will affect demand for sustainable fuels in Europe.

I find it extremely exciting to be at the center of the energy transition. Though there is a lot to be done to achieve the net-zero commitments more and more countries are making, I am proud and grateful to help shape that energy transition.
