What made you decide to join McKinsey after the Datathon?
I had been pursuing a role as a data scientist since I got my masters. The Datathon convinced me McKinsey was the right place because it offered great people and great opportunities to make a difference in the real world.
Why did you decide to become a consultant instead of going into industry?
Consulting allowed me to learn about different industries and topics at a rapid pace at the start of my career as a data scientist. Plus, I have the option to travel a lot, which is always a good thing to me.
Your role in a nutshell?
As a data scientist at McKinsey, I do tons of different stuff. I use my technical knowledge to implement advanced analytics algorithms and soft skills to collaborate effectively with clients in different industries and colleagues from many backgrounds. My favorite type of technical work is prototyping models, then taking them to production.
About Jorge:
I am a senior data scientist based in the Madrid Analytics Hub. I majored in telecommunication engineering in the University of Alcalá and got my Masters in computer science from Tufts University, with a focus in Machine Learning. Prior to joining McKinsey, I worked as software developer in Telefonica and a data engineer at Amazon.
