In recognition of International Day of Pink, we would like to introduce you to the GLAM Allies network - a group of 4,800+ McKinsey colleagues who volunteer to be inclusive, visible and vocal advocates of GLAM, McKinsey’s LGBTQ+ global network. Our GLAM Allies network support their LGBTQ+ colleagues by self-identifying as a GLAM Ally, being an advocate for GLAM colleagues and learning and communicating about how to make the firm a more inclusive environment for LGBTQ+. Here are five ways our allies show up to support their networks and communities:
Communicate inclusively: use gender neutral terms like "significant other"
Show support: become a visible supporter through visual objects (e.g., stickers, signage)
Talk about it: let others know they’re an Ally, what that means, what they’ve learned, why it’s important and share their experiences
Speak up: embrace and react to moments of truth by confronting and speaking up when someone uses insensitive language, including microaggressions
Show up: get involved in LGBTQ+ equality initiatives and events, like Pride and Day of Pink
