Tell us about yourself.
I’m Victoria. I’m a data scientist in my second year at McKinsey. I joined McKinsey last winter after I graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor’s in bioengineering and a master’s in engineering management. In my free time, I paint, take photos, and do yoga.
What is special about McKinsey?
Everyone is kind and willing to help me, even with the most complex or obscure topics. My colleagues are always open to trying new things and they stay on the cutting edge of innovation and technology. It is an exciting place to work. I learn something new every day.
What are your Friday or weekend plans.
We have a team retreat on Friday in NYC. I’m staying over the weekend to catch up with friends and look for apartments because I’m transferring offices soon. I wanted to be close to my family and banking analytics is a growing area in New York.
What are you drinking and why?
Tea for now. Beer later. The office hosts a coffee club on Friday mornings; I’m attending to learn to appreciate the drink. There’s also a beer club on Friday afternoon; I’m thankful it’s not a wine club because every time I drink wine, I think of the times I had to memorize grape varietals for a wine class I took in college.
Do you have a Feel Good Friday tip?
Start the day with upbeat and happy music. I have a playlist called “Songs Our Parents Like.”My Friday favorite is probably “Friday I’m in Love” by The Cure. It always puts me in a good mood.
What inspires you?
Pablo Picasso said, “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” But I think he might have stolen that from William Shakespeare...
What’s your favorite app?
Instagram. Their recommendation algorithms are getting better and I always discover new brands, bloggers, and artists I like.
