The ability to easily tap 4,500 McKinsey technologists across more than 30 industry and functional specialties to support my work and growth is just something I can’t get elsewhere.
I received my bachelor’s in mechanical engineering and technology management from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. Before joining McKinsey, I was based in Johannesburg, working as a data-product manager and also as a consultant at Engineers Without Borders South Africa.
After completing my MBA at Oxford, I joined McKinsey as a product manager with the QuantumBlack team in London, which focuses on advanced analytics to help clients make more strategic business decisions. More specifically, I was hired to work on Kedro, McKinsey’s first open-source software tool created for data scientists and engineers.
Why I chose McKinsey
I was considering several offers, but I came here because McKinsey has the best learning and development opportunities. The ability to easily tap 4,500 McKinsey technologists across more than 30 industry and functional specialties to support my work and growth is just something I can’t get elsewhere.
Rewarding work leads to once-in-a-lifetime recognition
My work is meaningful because it helps data scientists build new machine-learning products more easily and proves the value of machine learning.
My work led to a remarkable professional achievement. I became a top three finalist for Young Digital Leader of the Year.
It’s an honor, but I give so much credit to the whole team of brilliant data scientists, software engineers, and others who made the project possible.
Life outside of work
I experienced a personal achievement as I developed a social impact virtual-reality film that premiered at the Sundance 2020 film festival.
