Do you want to work on complex and pressing challenges—the kind that bring together curious, ambitious, and determined leaders who strive to become better every day? If this sounds like you, you’ve come to the right place.

Your Impact

You will work closely with the wider McKinsey Legal Department and other firm functions including our Technology Ecosystem, Cyber Security, Risk, and Compliance. You will have an opportunity to work with and learn from experienced lawyers with backgrounds in a wide range of technology related legal specialties.
You will become a member of the Technology Legal Team within McKinsey Legal, based in one of our US offices (New York, New Jersey, Washington DC, Boston or Atlanta preferred).
Our Technology Legal Team has global responsibilities covering a wide range of technology legal topics, including (i) advising our consultants on engagements involving technology delivery; (ii) reviewing new software and technology assets in development; (iii) acting as product counsel to our internal and client-facing teams responsible for technology products and services (assets); (iv) analyzing, advising, and preparing for regulatory changes in artificial intelligence, data localization, cyber security and technology more broadly; (v) advising our information security team and security operations center;(vi) managing our intellectual property portfolio; and (vii) supporting our regional lawyers in their work involving technology.
All of our Technology Legal Team members assist across topics. Your role will focus primarily on our internal technology systems and products - providing counsel for new, developing, and established products and/or tech systems and advising on legal topics related to data beyond the scope of personal data. Over time your role may involve other aspects of our team’s work. You will review and advise our product teams on technology systems and products that we build or implement to support the work of our firm. You will advise on complex, large scale data projects and programs. You will monitor regulatory proposals and changes, developing strategies for implementing regulatory requirements, and educating our teams outside of legal on regulatory developments in their space.
You will take an active role in internal knowledge and learning- e.g., developing precedent documents and rolling-out training for firm leadership, the wider McKinsey Legal Department and other firm functions. You will draft, review and negotiate complex contracts relating to software, artificial intelligence, data analytics, cyber security, and data usage. Negotiations will entail frequent interaction with McKinsey clients and consultants. You will also identify best practices to address legal and professional issues impacting the firm’s business, including counseling consultants on the application of McKinsey’s internal policies.

Your Growth

Driving lasting impact and building long-term capabilities with our clients is not easy work. You are the kind of person who thrives in a high performance/high reward culture - doing hard things, picking yourself up when you stumble, and having the resilience to try another way forward.
In return for your drive, determination, and curiosity, we'll provide the resources, mentorship, and opportunities you need to become a stronger leader faster than you ever thought possible. Your colleagues—at all levels—will invest deeply in your development, just as much as they invest in delivering exceptional results for clients.
