Who You'll Work With

You will be based in Boston, Massachusetts office as part of McKinsey’s global Life Sciences and Private Capital Client Capability Network (CCN) teams. This is a hybrid role, with 3 days per week working in-person from McKinsey’s Boston office and potential travel to additional McKinsey or client offices based on project needs. 
In this role, you will work with colleagues from our Life Sciences practice, and our Private Capital practice, with a focus on Life Sciences topics. You will collaborate with a diverse group of experts across Medtech and biopharma, including R&D, commercial, and operations, delivering valuable insights for Private Equity clients. You will develop and leverage specialized assets and approaches in the Life Sciences and Private Capital practices, support our LS Due-diligence engagement teams and value creation across portfolio companies, and play a critical role in shaping strategic decisions and driving success in a dynamic and impactful field.
  
You will also be part of McKinsey’s Global Client Capabilities Network (CCN) which includes more than 3,500 diverse professionals delivering distinctive client impact and fueled by a culture of innovation. The CCN is our platform for innovating our service to private capital clients, building intellectual property, digital assets, and consistent approaches for delivering high-quality due diligences, portfolio company transformations and strategic and organizational engagements.

Your impact within our firm

You will work with leaders in our Life Sciences Private Capital team, advising clients on investment theses, due diligence efforts, and portfolio value creation. In this role, you will develop insights, maintain a knowledge base, and create innovative approaches to enhance client service. Additionally, you will apprentice across our Life Sciences capabilities, gaining a comprehensive understanding of our offerings and expertise in Life Sciences as a whole.  
In this role, the primary responsibilities include delivering standardized modules on Life Sciences due diligence, such as B2B/BTC surveys, Voice of Customer and competitive landscape through expert led insights, market modeling, and value creation levers. You will also deploy Life Sciences practice tools, proprietary methodologies, and curated datasets on projects. Additionally, this role involves building, maintaining, and managing the Life Sciences Private Capital knowledge assets in digital formats.
You will work closely with Life Sciences and Private Capital leadership teams to identify and support the development of tools and applications for internal and client-related topics.

Your qualifications and skills

  • Bachelor's degree with a consistent outstanding academic record is required; master’s degree in biotech, business, finance, or a related field is a plus and preferred 
  • 1+ years of experience and strong interest in, pharmaceutical, Biotech or MedTech operations, R&D topics such as pharmacovigilance and regulatory or ESG, commercial topics such as market access or the health tech / digital health space, or a clinical role
  • Demonstrated business research experience in an academic or business setting is preferred
  • Foundational knowledge of due diligences (e.g., market modeling, expert interviews, external report analyses, conducting surveys, etc.) or demonstrated experience/interest in the same
  • Excellent problem-solving skills including the ability to structure a problem, disaggregate issues, identify root causes and recommend solutions
  • Ability to accomplish work in a fast paced and dynamic work environment 
  • Solid understanding of financial, economic and general business concepts and terminology 
  • Possesses high quality standards, a commitment to completing tasks within deadlines, and the ability to work under pressure
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and data manipulation 
  • Experience with crafting clear, effective, and relevant prompts for Generative AI models
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Professional attitude, work standards and service orientation
