Who You'll Work With

You’ll be based in the Seoul office and will work with the Global Energy & Materials (GEM) group. This is the firm's largest industry practice and encompasses four industry cells: Basic Materials, Chemicals & Agriculture, Electric Power & Natural Gas and Oil & Gas.

You will be working with a unique blend of industry, functional, and regional experts to help companies solve their most important and complex problems—and deliver fundamental, measurable, and lasting performance improvement.

Energy and materials industries are big and important to the world’s economy and you as a key player will face significant challenges such as meeting growing demands, operating productively, and managing gigantic capital investments. McKinsey has an unparalleled reputation in these industries across the world, and today serves most of the top players globally.

What You'll Do

You will work in small teams to build clients’ capabilities, systems, and processes to ensure our clients capture and sustain the anticipated bottom-line results.

In this role, you will work with our teams serving clients on GEM topics where you can apply your deep expertise and knowledge. You will also help advance our insights on industry trends and assist on client development. Your industry experience positions you as a subject matter expert on your teams, particularly in cases where the team members have little experience in the chemicals industry.

You will be able to develop and continuously deepen your expertise about the chemical/refinery industry through this role. You will have opportunities to work closely with and learn from global GEM leadership. You will also learn how to leverage the McKinsey knowledge network.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in chemicals/chemical engineering and/or an advanced degree (master’s, MBA, PhD)
  • In-depth understanding of the development trends in the chemical/refinery industry; knowledge of value chains (current trends, players, technologies, etc.) is required
  • Proven record of leadership in a work setting and/or through extracurricular activities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and effectively with people at all levels in an organization
  • Mobile and excited to take on longer international assignments
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English and Korean
  • Ability to work with people across all levels in an organization to make them successful; track record of strong influencing and communication skills
