In this role you will conduct analyses and develop analytic tools to support and inform our Regional Leadership on the progress and impact of activities underway or under consideration. These include analyses of the performance and health of the Region’s portfolio of at-risk and invested engagements.
You will also be monitoring the overall portfolio’s size, growth, sources of growth and pipeline; projecting the portfolio’s expected net realization, i.e. how much we expect to ultimately recover from projects done with a portion of our fees at-risk; measuring conversion rates on investments approved by our committees, particularly conversion into longer term, transformative programs.
Part of the role will be to assess the evolution of our competitive positioning and relative strategic distance vis-à-vis different segments of competitors, i.e.: mapping our relative competitive success across industries, geographies and service lines; identifying and characterizing key ‘battlegrounds’, i.e. the combinations of industry / service line / geography were we most frequently encounter a competitor; investigating the potential underlying causes for eventual differences in competitive success or competitive intensity.
You will do maintenance and investigation of the Region’s ‘client opportunity map’, that is, the database wherein is kept information on the major companies in the Region for purposes of prioritization of client development efforts. Analytics conducted here include: estimates of the extent and nature of McKinsey’s relationship with different segments of potential clients, for example, clients of different size (i.e. as measured by revenues) or ownership (i.e. whether a part of a local business conglomerate or major multinational); identification of the service lines and companies with highest probability of successful introduction leveraging findings from the firm’s advanced analytics capabilities.
It is important to emphasize that the role is not one of conducting analyses alone: you will be expected to interpret the results of your analyses; and also extract recommendations and next steps resulting from that interpretation; communicate the findings in a clear and ‘top down’ way; support implementation and coordinate the different areas that may be involved in executing against the recommendations developed based on your analyses.
