Your Impact

You will carry out diligence on clients to inform decision making on who the firm serves. In doing so, you will have responsibility for identifying, clearing and where appropriate escalating red flags. While the role is global, your focus will be primarily be on the Americas region.  
You will play an important role in evolving and ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the firm’s diligence processes in a globally consistent way while also supporting efforts to ensure compliance with relevant firm policies, systems, and processes.  
In carrying our diligence on prospective new clients, you will synthesize multiple sources of data, both internal and external to the firm, to provide actionable guidance, help navigate uncertainty, and identify ways to mitigate risk. This will often involve the development and delivery of contextualized reports to firm colleagues, and collaboration as necessary to secure additional expert input to inform due diligence discussions and fill gaps in knowledge. You will be responsible for the diligence research, data synthesis, and reporting with the support and guidance of more senior team members. 
 
Over time, you will be expected to inform decision making through an increasingly nuanced understanding of economic, geographic, and political issues that impact on the firm’s engagements, and to serve as a valued source of advice on relevant approaches and levels of diligence for specific sectors and clients.  

Your Growth

You will be based in Tampa, Phoenix, or San Jose and report to the Compliance Manager, COE Diligence, Americas who is based in Tampa, Florida. 
You will be part of McKinsey’s Client and Regulatory Compliance pillar which forms part of the firm’s Ethics & Compliance Group, whose mission is to enable McKinsey’s client impact and innovation, while managing risks to the firm, our clients, and our people. The Compliance function is a globally integrated team within the second line of defense of the firm.  

Your qualifications and skills

  • Please submit your resume and 1-2 due diligence report writing samples (at least one adverse media sample preferred)
  • must be a US citizen (due to confidentiality of reporting in role)
  • 2+ years of professional experience including two years of experience in due diligence; experience in risk management and compliance is a plus
  • Outstanding English written and oral communication skills, including clear and concise writing and editorial skills and excellent listening skills; Portuguese or Spanish language skills are an advantage but not required 
  • Professional experience includes working on complex problems related to business risk
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytic skills, with a demonstrable ability to operate with limited oversight
  • Experience working with third party tools for diligence related work
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to prioritize and balance competing, time-urgent demands
  • Experience in or aptitude for mastering risk-related data sets and technology solutions  
  • Experience (work or research) in multiple Americas geographies is important; experience in other emerging economies is especially helpful
  • Highly collaborative attitude, and the interest and aptitude for working as part of a diverse and dispersed global team
  • Strong personal presence and credibility with the ability to work across all levels of seniority, cultivating trust-based, peer-counselor relationships in a highly matrixed environment  
  • Strong personal resilience, including comfort and credibility in challenging discussions with senior colleagues, balancing robustness, persistence, flexibility, humility, and tact
  • Experience undertaking complex research independently and efficiently using a range of web-based sources and using Internet search strategies
  • Comfort with, and preferably advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
  • Academic credentials that include a strong undergraduate degree and demonstrable intellectual curiosity through professional training, advanced degree, or professional impact  
  • Occasional travel required and must have the ability to work across several time zones as needed
