Who You'll Work With

You will be based in Tokyo and will be part of our QuantumBlack team. As an Expert Data Scientist, you will work with other Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, Designers and Project Managers on interdisciplinary projects, using Math, Stats and Machine Learning to derive structure and knowledge from raw data across various industry sectors.  
We are currently leveraging technologies including Python, Spark, Luigi, Airflow, AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Databricks, Docker, Kubernetes, Node.JS, React, Javascript, Typescript, SCSS, GraphQL and MySQL. We also launched our product suite, Kedro and QB Horizon to help clients scale AI.  
However, we advocate to use the right tech for the right task. Technology evolves and the engineering is responsible to stay up to date with the latest technologies and ensure we make the relevant changes where needed.

Your impact within our firm

In this role you will influence many of the recommendations our clients need to positively change their businesses and enhance performance. You will work on complex and extremely varied data sets from some of the world’s largest organizations to solve real world problems. You will work in multi-disciplinary environments harnessing data to provide real-world impact for organization globally.  
You will also work with specialists including, but not limited to software engineering, data engineering and design. You will be encouraged to write whitepapers, develop internal assets and present at meetings and conferences should you wish.
As an Expert Data Scientist in QuantumBlack Japan you will:
  • Act as a leader and mentor for a group of data scientists and engineers in the QuantumBlack Japan team
  • Advise clients on a variety of topics leveraging your expertise in Data Science including use case feasibility estimation, solution architecture of AI solutions, capability building through training and pair programming, etc.
  • You will help lead digital and analytics engagements that include the development and deployment of AI technologies
  • Produce high-quality code that allows us to deploy analytical solutions in Production
  • Suggest and build model features through requirements gathering with McKinsey consultants and Client team members
  • Lead code reviews and refactoring
  • Contribute to model and architecture design decisions
  • Advocate for and drive the adoption of our engineering best practices and high
  • software engineering standards

Your qualifications and skills

  • MSc or PhD level in a relevant field (such as Computer Science, Machine Learning, Applied Statistics, Mathematics)
  • Client-facing skills e.g. working in close-knit teams on topics such as data warehousing, machine learning
  • Demonstrated leadership (thought leadership or people leadership e.g. managed project teams or direct reports)
  • Experience in applying data science methods to business problems
  • Significant programming experience in languages such as: Python, R, Scala, SQL
  • Good presentation and communication skills, with a knack for explaining complex analytical concepts to people from other fields
  • Knowledge of cloud data systems and data platforms such as: Microsoft Azure, AWS, Databricks
  • Proven application of advanced analytical and statistical methods in the commercial world
  • Strong command of both English and Japanese (JLPT N1 or Native)
