You’ll join Wave as part of our Asia Hub, based in Tokyo, Japan. Wave is part of the McKinsey Transformation Practice.
McKinsey Transformation (MT) is a practice that delivers a proven approach for transformational change to clients seeking radical and sustainable performance improvement. Over the last several years, we have worked with hundreds of organizations around the world and across sectors. Most of our clients are driven by a desire to capture untapped potential; others face significant external challenges or industry discontinuities.
Large-scale change and transformation programs often finish without achieving the expected impact. Organizations lack transparency around goals, they are unable to monitor program status, and their employees can’t see the contributions of their day-to-day work. Wave is McKinsey's proprietary solution that combines a program management digital platform with expert services to help organizations drive sustainable impact, not just activities. You'll work with a variety of colleagues (consulting, product development, service delivery, management, client development). They will be based in Japan as well as different offices across Asia, Europe, and the US. They all have a common passion for digital innovation and smart business processes. You will also have significant interaction with McKinsey Consulting Teams and client end users across a large portfolio of clients. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Wave global product, leadership and client service teams in contributing to overall improvement and growth initiatives.

Your impact within our firm

As a Software Delivery Specialist for Wave, you will bridge client business challenges with our Solution's capabilities. You will lead gathering and translating business requirements into configuration choices that best leverage the Wave platform to suit our clients' business purposes through their large-scale business transformation programs.  
The key activities include:
  • End-to-end ownership of complex workstreams with little oversight
  • Proactively seeking stakeholder guidance and feedback throughout the project lifecycle
  • Leveraging best practices from the McKinsey Transformation recipe when designing and customizing the Wave offering
  • Working with client representatives and McKinsey consultants in joint problem-solving sessions and helping them with questions they might have regarding the Solution usage or applicability
  • Understanding client business needs and implementing technical solutions in Wave by working with the service delivery team in our hub location(s)
  • Identifying and contributing to product and service development opportunities
  • Being involved in client’s capability building, by providing them with in-person and remote training
  • Apprentice small groups of analysts in the context of client projects and/or internal initiatives

Your qualifications and skills

  • Undergraduate degree with an excellent academic record; graduate degree a plus
  • 5+ years of relevant professional work experience in the field of IT, consulting and/or business intelligence
  • Project management experience with large cloud implementation programs such as SaaS
  • Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly process complex information
  • Outstanding quantitative/analytical thinking capabilities (strong command of MS Excel, VBA, SQL, JSON are a plus)
  • Experience in technology consultancy and/or implementing or supporting SaaS or web-based services
  • Experience in service delivery, project management and change management
  • Consistently deliver exceptional results, working both independently and as part of a team
  • Entrepreneurial and comfortable with risk taking and ambiguity
  • Understanding of basic financial and business terminology
  • Fluency in Japanese and an excellent command of English
  • Clear oral and written communication skills to facilitate discussions and conduct training
  • High level of ownership and independent thinking
  • Excellent time management & expectation management skills
  • Creative and action-oriented mindset
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn new tools and techniques as per organization needs
  • Self-motivated
  • Able to work well within teams across continents/time zones with a collaborative mindset
  • Ability to travel abroad for working sessions and meetings with Service Management team
  • Ability to operate in a high pressure and unstructured environment where priorities evolve constantly
  • Ability to travel for working sessions from time to time
