Choosing McKinsey

I came to McKinsey Digital because it is a combination of tech and consulting. Working in the McKinsey Digital practice is similar to my previous job as product manager—I need to understand market dynamics, customer needs, and competitive landscape and design a strategy accordingly. I work closely with clients to solve many of their pressing business challenges. In the short time I’ve been with McKinsey, I’ve worked across industries and sectors and the experience has accelerated my career growth in many ways.

Rewarding, Meaningful Experiences

My most rewarding moments are seeing our work unlock potential for our clients. Not too long ago, my team and I wrapped up an eight-month, multiphase project helping our client define its digital operating model and build its digital capabilities. After we left, we got updates from the client as they implemented our recommendations—it's wonderful to hear about their successes and how their business operations are now running smoothly.

Discovering New Interests

Working with leading brands to define their strategy and build new capabilities led me to find my passion in the consumer sector. The work at McKinsey has so much variety. For example, I helped an apparel brand explore ways to boost growth in China, worked with a consumer brand to design and build omnichannel capabilities, and designed business processes for a consumer electronics brand to build its foundation for digital transformation. It is extremely exciting to see the benefits of our recommendations manifest in the brands we know.

A Truly Global Firm

On one project, we helped a global client set up a new business in China. The team was made up of consultants from China, Germany, India, Singapore, and the United States. All of my projects included experts from across the globe, and we brought the best of the firm to deliver the best possible solutions to our clients. Separately, our pre-COVID-19 in-person trainings were held in great locations like Japan and Austria and included faculty and colleagues from different offices. Trainings are a great way to build connectivity and learn about global best practices. As a firm, we’ve been able to replicate this experience virtually during the pandemic.

Work-Life Balance

McKinsey prioritizes making work sustainable for its consultants. The firm is respectful of working preferences and personal time, so weekends are sacred. I love having the explicit support to be home on Friday and spend weekends with my six-year-old daughter. I cherish this special time every weekend to watch her grow.
