In recent years, many companies have replaced their processes for sales and operations planning with the more sophisticated approach of integrated business planning (IBP). According to our research, the average effective IBP practitioner realizes one or two additional percentage points in EBIT compared with companies that lack a well-functioning IBP process. However, the implementation of IBP at many organizations falls short in areas including senior-level participation and shared metrics and accountability.
