Grocers are in a unique position to help lead on sustainability. The food system accounts for 34 percent of global greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions. While grocers contribute only about 4 percent of food-related GHG emissions, they have an opportunity to influence and support decarbonization along the value chain, including suppliers and farmers (upstream) and consumer choices (downstream).
