A thriving market solution for emissions may be on the way

Purchasing carbon credits is one way for a company to offset emissions it is unable to eliminate. In our estimate, annual global demand could reach up to 1.5 to 2.0 gigatons of carbon dioxide (GtCO2) by 2030 and up to 7 to 13 GtCO2 by 2050. Our research suggests that supply could meet the demand, creating the basis for a thriving market.

Global demand for voluntary carbon credits could increase by a factor of 15 by 2030 and a factor of 100 by 2050.
