The spirit of Lagos is about innovative energy, optimism in the face of daunting obstacles, and a stubborn belief in possibilities.
Why McKinsey?
When I first heard about McKinsey, and then read more about it and the way it works, I realized that I had discovered something rare–a place where I would be both challenged and nurtured, while gaining cross-industry, international experience.
Our work at McKinsey is nothing if not challenging. Clients from nearly every industry come to McKinsey with their biggest, most difficult problems, which stretches your mental capacity and makes for demanding but exciting work. In the midst of all that fast-paced problem solving, you develop a broad skillset at an exponential rate. The industry knowledge and analytical skills I’ve developed during my time at McKinsey will be valuable throughout my career.
And McKinsey is truly a global firm! With offices in 60 countries, the client could literally be anywhere in the world, in any industry, and your team is frequently multinational. On my current study, I’m helping a European client figure out an investment strategy in the consumer goods industry, working with a team of colleagues from 6 different countries. On my previous study, I helped a Nigerian client develop a strategy to leverage big data with a team from 3 different continents!
Why Lagos?
Lagos is one city where magic happens in midst of chaos. The spirit of Lagos is about innovative energy, optimism in the face of daunting obstacles, and a stubborn belief in possibilities; this is fully reflected in the attitude of the Lagos office. Everyone here, from office leadership to the newest joiner really believes in Nigeria’s potential, and we refuse to cut corners or limit our vision because ‘this is Nigeria’ or ‘this is how things work here’. Rather we dream big and navigate Nigeria’s unique problems creatively. I can’t think of a better place to be to help drive the economic rebirth of Nigeria, and Africa as a whole.
More about myself?
I’m fascinated by Japanese culture and history. I enjoy reading Japanese manga and watching anime; I’m learning the language and I dream of teaching in Japan one day.
