Why did you choose to apply for an internship at McKinsey?

An internship at McKinsey allowed me to work within various industries that I was curious about. The internship at McKinsey was a great way to explore my interests.

What type of work did you do?

During my internship, I was part of three different projects in various industries. The first was in the healthcare sector. We helped the client evaluate the potential target of interest in terms of market, competitive landscape, and possible value-creation levers. The second project involved strategy work for a large apparel and fashion company, where we supported the client in defining their e-commerce strategy. In the third project, we helped the client assess the market for a potential divestment of their portfolio company in the construction industry.

What has been the most valuable learning during your internship?

Working with all the great people at McKinsey helped me develop core skills such as problem-solving, communication, and structure of analyses. In addition, the internship made me more certain about what I wanted to do after my studies.

Did the internship meet your expectations?

Definitely. As an intern, I was part of the team from day one. I was responsible for my own workstream, which was very valuable. What surprised me was the excellent feedback culture and the willingness to help me in my personal development.

What has been the best thing about being an intern at McKinsey?

As an intern at McKinsey, I received the full consulting experience and it made me feel like being part of the firm from day one.

Any final words of advice for students considering an internship?

Do not hesitate to apply. An internship at McKinsey will allow you to explore your interests and learn a lot while having lots of fun.
