McKinsey Classics | October 2020 |
A 2015 McKinsey article marveled that the pace of digital change had accelerated significantly in recent times. Of course, the authors couldn’t know that just half a decade later, many companies would compress years of digital development into weeks or even days, forever altering our ideas about what it means to change quickly. “Raising your Digital Quotient” suits today’s business environment very well.

The authors make three recommendations to help companies develop and deploy digital technologies at scale. The first two are evergreens: honestly assess both your long-term strategic choices and your current capabilities—very good advice in 2015, today, and 50 years from now. But the third recommendation—to develop a fast, agile corporate culture—has special relevance at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has forced companies to adapt rapidly or die. For today’s needs explained five years ago, read “Raising your Digital Quotient.”
