| | You may have heard that Claudia Goldin won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for her research on the key drivers behind the gender pay gap. She is the third woman to be awarded the economics Nobel and the first woman to be the sole winner. According to the latest Women in the Workplace report from McKinsey, in partnership with LeanIn.Org, women have made some hard-fought gains at the top but they are still underrepresented in the middle of the pipeline. The largest study of women in corporate America and Canada, the report sheds light on women’s experience in the workplace today, and includes an intersectional look at the biases and barriers faced by Asian, Black, Latina, and LGBTQ+ women, and women with disabilities. This year’s report also debunks common myths about women’s career ambitions, barriers to their ascent to senior leadership, the effect and extent of microaggressions in the workplace, and their appetite for flexible work. Be sure to download the full report with insights from McKinsey’s Emily Field, Alexis Krivkovich, Lareina Yee, and coauthors, and see what companies can do to make meaningful progress toward gender equality.
