Identifying large savings to kick-start a long-term transformation program

A large US metals and mining company needed to improve its financial situation and implement a large transformation program.

MineLens was used as part of a wide and long-term transformation program:

• First, a MineLens diagnostic covered the mining activities, such as drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling
• Second, the pelletizing plant’s crushing and milling activities were covered by using advanced-analytics methods

MineLens provided the client with valuable information:

• Identification of an opportunity to increase mining throughput by 24 percent and to reduce costs by $20 million to $60 million
• By focusing on crushing and milling, identification of an additional opportunity to increase throughput by 7 percent and to reduce crushing and milling costs by $14 million
