Dan founded and coleads our energy and climate finance initiatives. In this role, he works with investors, lenders, operating companies, insurers, and public finance agencies to invest in and build businesses in the context of the energy transition. He has worked with dozens of clients to set portfolio strategies, make investment decisions in specific targets, build new energy and climate businesses, and assess risks in existing portfolios.
In addition to his energy finance work, Dan serves a broad range of commercial clients and public-sector agencies on strategic planning, operations and technology improvement, and business growth.
Previously, Dan led our public finance group, which serves public finance agencies, public lenders, and state-owned enterprises to improve operational performance and mission delivery. Dan has worked with public lenders and finance institutions representing more than $10 trillion in portfolio value.
Prior to that, Dan coled our customer experience and design unit, which serves clients seeking to improve consumer and B2B customer delivery while using those improvements to drive enhanced financial results. Dan has worked with multiple top customer experience brands in the US and globally to generate customer insights, design customer journeys, and create customer experience performance improvements.
As a partner, Dan led our real estate finance and housing group. In this capacity, he also led our housing crisis response work in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. He maintains a passion for residential and multifamily housing. Over the years, he has led our client service to multiple national and regional lenders, real estate brokerages, mortgage insurers, builders, mortgage servicers, technology firms, and government housing agencies.
Dan is a regular speaker and panelist at industry events, including the Aspen Security Forum, Chatham House, the International Institute of Finance, Milken Institute, the Salata Institute – Harvard University, and senior industry roundtables.
Examples of his recent client work include:
- designing and leading a multiyear performance improvement program at a Fortune 20 company, improving the net promoter score 4x to top decile and delivering over $300 million annual earnings impact through pricing improvements and cost savings
- serving a global data and analytics firm to build its energy and climate data business, including detailed assessment of B2B customer needs and product-market fit
- developing the energy and climate portfolio strategy for a global private equity investor with $50 billion in assets under management (AUM), including defining priority technologies with a path to commercialization, assessing near-term opportunities with promising return potential, and identifying the talent and capabilities required to succeed
- defining the energy investment strategy for a major global sovereign investor, including building growth scenarios at a product and technology level, identifying areas with national security and economic interests, mapping supply chain and labor force dependencies, and aligning on an investment strategy
- building a $500 million revenue new business unit for a major real estate firm in anticipation of its IPO, including designing the business processes, implementing the staffing and sourcing approach, negotiating with partners, and standing up distribution and marketing
- working with a major global law firm to craft a global strategy, refine its pricing, reduce back-office costs, and improve client outreach and conversion
Dan holds a bachelor’s in history from Princeton University, where he was the editor-in-chief of The Daily Princetonian, and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School. He is a founding board member of Foster America, a national not-for-profit that serves at-risk youth and child welfare agencies.
